The Russian Defense Ministry told the media about the arrival of an automated control system with artificial intelligence capabilities into the air defense forces. This spring, the new "smart" ACS was tested in one of the VKS regiments. The military experts have approved a novelty - the automated control system with artificial intelligence will go on combat duty this year.
Experts highly appreciate the capabilities of the new system. Now each individual air defense missile system and its associated radar have their own control system. The new ACS is capable of combining early warning systems (anti-aircraft missile systems), such as the S-300 and S-400, and such anti-aircraft missiles (anti-aircraft missile systems) of short range, like the Pantsir, which significantly increase the effectiveness of the interaction of air defense units. The artificial intelligence of a new system in real-time lightning speed assesses the air situation on a huge area, detects targets, their characteristics and quantity. The capabilities of the system with AI do not end there, it not only sees the situation in the sky, but also prompts the commander for possible actions, for example, shows those targets that are to be destroyed first of all, since they are the most dangerous.
The moment that the ACS not only sees the situation in the airspace, but also suggests a possible algorithm of actions to the commander, is extremely important - the decision-making time is reduced. Thanks to an organized intellectual system of interaction between long-range and short-range air defense missile systems, it is possible to build defense in depth both from a massive rocket attack, and from air raids, and even from small-sized drones.
The new automated intelligence system with artificial intelligence has something to combine into one system, because, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies, published on the pages of the annual bulletin The Military Balance, the Russian VKS has 46 S-400 divisions and 126 S-300 division sets on combat duty. Almost every regiment of the S-300 or S-400 air defense missile systems is tied with a considerable amount of the Pantsir air defense system.
