Hunters for "Merkavim" returned to the battlefield

Syrian government forces are preparing for a possible confrontation with the Israeli army, equipped with modern armored vehicles.

In the face of reduced intensity of hostilities against terrorist armed groups, Syrian generals were able to pay attention to building up forces on the potentially dangerous direction of the Golan Heights - a disputed territory on the Syrian-Israeli border.

Certainly, considering the possible scenarios for the exacerbation of the situation and predicting that the Israeli military will throw their tank units into battle, the command of the Syrian armed forces moves combat vehicles of the anti-tank missile complex “Konkurs” 9P148 to the border with Israel.

The equipment supplied by the Soviet Union was designed to fight tanks, and almost certainly Israeli Merkava-type tanks would become an easy target for them.

The machine is capable of striking with missiles as moving targets moving at speeds of up to 60 km / h, as well as stationary protected objects such as DOT and SDOT in conditions of optical visibility.

The firing range is up to 4000 meters. The transfer time of the car from the traveling position to the combat position and back does not exceed 25 seconds. Ammunition - up to ten missiles.

These lightly armored "hunters" are based on the BRDM-2. Syria received them in the 80s, but to this day they have not yet demonstrated their combat power in real hostilities.

For all the time of the Syrian civil war, the equipment was located at the storage bases, despite the fact that there was a need for them - the militants had a significant number of armored vehicles, including tanks.

According to military experts, the military leadership of Syria took the decision to return equipment to the system even when fighting against terrorists was in full swing. It was then that battles were fought in populated areas, where the emplacements were carefully prepared and had high security.

The use of guided missiles would ensure the destruction of targets at a range of up to 4 kilometers, and the armor of the machine would provide advantages in defense when storming positions of militants.

The long pause that occurred on the fronts allowed the re-deployment of anti-tank equipment closer to the Israeli borders, where at any time Merkava hunters can be useful.
