Russia in a fierce fight won the tender for the supply of Igla-S MANPADS to India. Now this southern country is in the top three of the countries purchasing this Russian weapon.
According to Russian media, the cost of the deal for the delivery of India's Igla-S MANPADS to India was about $ 1.5 billion. The agreement on the supply of MANPADS will not fall under the obstacles of the United States, which provide for sanctions against customers of products of Russian defense enterprises.
Note, in the framework of the VSHORAD program (short-range air defense systems), India plans to replace the outdated Soviet-Russian Igla-M systems with the latest Igla-S MANPADS, which operate on the principle of “fired and forgotten”. India intends to buy 5175 missiles and launchers. All of them will come from Russia in various configurations, 600 rockets will be manufactured directly in factories in India.
Recall, the Igla-S MANPADS is designed to protect army units, military and civilian targets from enemy tactical aviation attacks, as well as to destroy cruise missiles and UAVs, including at night.
