All light armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and armored cars in Russia will be equipped with 57 mm caliber guns. This is the new concept for the development of domestic armored vehicles of the Ministry of Defense.
According to Izvestia, the new weapons are designed to fight on an equal footing with enemy tanks, as well as destroy its unmanned aerial vehicles.
In the domestic military department, they noted that 57-caliber guns would give light Russian armored vehicles a significant advantage over similar machines from other armies in the world.
Earlier, domestic armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles were armed with 30 and 100 mm caliber guns. The main feature of the new - increased rate of fire and versatility in the application.
It is noteworthy that the guns of this caliber have a heroic story. Systems of the same caliber were installed in the Soviet Union on the ZSU-57-2 anti-aircraft guns. Such guns have proven themselves in the fighting in Vietnam. It is noteworthy that their versatility allowed them to destroy enemy aircraft.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation notes that in this way our country became the first world, where they launched a serial re-equipment of this type of weapon.
According to experts, the guns of the 57th caliber have high accuracy and high striking effect. In addition, they easily pierce the armor of the BMP, BTR, and specialized combat vehicles. These qualities in the foreseeable future should ensure the superiority of light armored vehicles of Russia over foreign counterparts for many years.
