GLONASS will pass the baton to "Sphere"

In 2021, the GLONASS program will cease to exist as such. Her replacement will come a new project called "Sphere". It absorbs from its predecessor all the most current today.

This was recently announced by the first deputy director of Roscosmos, Yuri Urlichich.

According to the representative of the concern, the project "Sphere" will include a number of new moments that will be able to modernize the work of GLONASS. In particular - communications, navigation and remote sensing of the Earth.

And from 2023, the project will provide users with a number of unique services - for example, such as high-precision navigation using six new satellites in high elliptical orbit.

This will allow the introduction of intelligent systems in the transport sector. Ideally, in the foreseeable future, there will be off-road cars.

Recall that in the near future, as part of the Sphere project, Russia will launch about 600 satellites into near-earth orbit that will provide communications and remote sensing of the Earth.

In total, by 2025, at an altitude of about 870 km, there will be about 288 satellites of this destination. 300 billion rubles from the state treasury will be allocated for this purpose.

Recall that such systems already exist in Europe (OneWeb) and the United States (Starlink).

As part of the American program, about 7,518 satellites will soon be launched into space.
