ATCM "Competition": the history of creation and technical characteristics

Anti-tank missile system (ATGM) "Competition" was developed in the mid-70s of the last century and became the basis of anti-tank weapons of the regimental level of the Soviet ground forces. Later, its Modification Konkurs-M was put into service, the missile of which (ATGM) had the best armor penetration characteristics.

"Competition" is in service with the Russian army today. In Iran, India, the former GDR and Bulgaria, the Konkurs ATGM was manufactured under a Soviet license.

ATCM "Competition" refers to the second-generation anti-tank missile systems.

History of creation

In the mid-60s of the last century, the leadership of the Soviet armed forces recognized the need to develop a new-generation self-propelled anti-tank missile system. ATCM "Bumblebee" and "Phalanx", standing at the time in service with the SA, clearly did not meet the requirements of the time.

The military needed an ATGM with a semi-automatic control system and a supersonic rocket, with a target range of at least 4 kilometers. In addition, developers were severely constrained by the cost of the complex. The competition was attended by the kol-men-sco-e Constu-hands-torskiy bureau of ro-ma-shi-no-building and the Design Bureau of Instrument Engineering (Tula).

Kolomna designers tried to accurately follow all the wishes of the customer, and in the Tula Bureau they approached the task more creatively. Tula designers evaluated the feasibility of each of the items of the job proposed by the military. As a result, they created a subsonic rocket (ATGM), which was controlled in flight over the wire, while at the same time making it much easier and cheaper. In addition, the new missile system was highly unified with the Fagot ATGM.

Initially, the project to develop a new regimental ATGM was called the Oboe, but the resulting complex was very different in its characteristics from the technical task, so they decided to change its name. The new ATGM was called the "Competition".

Tests and revision of the new anti-tank missile complex lasted for several years. ATCM "Competition" was adopted in 1974. This complex is largely unified with the ATGM "Fagot", from its launcher you can run the ATGM "Fagot".

A few years later, work began on the modernization of the "Competition". The main attention was paid to the anti-tank missile, the designers tried to make its targeting fully automatic. Tests of ATGM began in 1983, they lasted several years. In 1986, "Konkurs-R" decided to adopt, but a little earlier stopped producing BRDM-2, which was the main combat vehicle (BM) for this complex.

In the late 1980s, a more sophisticated modification of this rocket complex, the Konkurs-M, was developed. Its main difference was the new rocket with a tandem warhead, which significantly increased the armor penetration and allowed the Konkursu-M to successfully fight armored vehicles equipped with dynamic defense. In addition, for the installation of "Konkursa-M" can be used not only the BRDM-2, but also other BM: BMP, BMD, armored cars and even motorcycles.

Description

ATKR "Competition" - this is an anti-tank complex of the regimental level, which can successfully hit enemy armored vehicles and its fortifications at a distance of four kilometers.

The missile complex consists of several components:

  • combat vehicle (BM) 9P148;
  • launcher 9P135M;
  • guided missiles 9M113.

BM 9P148 was created specifically for the rocket complex "Competition". Its base is the BRDM-2, the body of which has some differences, due to the placement of the launcher, aiming systems and guidance. On the BM 9P148 there is a launcher with five rocket containers, each of which contains an ATGM 9M113. BM 9P148 goes into combat in 25 seconds, the loading time is fifteen minutes. Rate of fire - about two shots per minute.

The composition of the launcher includes: control equipment and guidance, trigger mechanism and machine. On the launcher 9P135M placed five launch containers, each of which is discarded after the shot. If the shooting comes from the BM 9P148, then from the power supply unit of the machine the voltage is applied to the electric igniters boron-to-th source of the pi-ta-tion, to the second ground-earth battery bloc pi-ta-niya and po-ho-howl for-row-dro-to-ra to-or-di-to-that-ra. After about ten meters of flight, the main engine turns on.

The horizontal pointing angle is 360 °, and the vertical angle is -5 ... + 20 °.

There is also a portable launcher, which is part of the armament of the self-propelled complex. It consists of a machine, control equipment and a trigger mechanism. Its weight is 22 kg.

Guided missile 9M113 has a classic aerodynamic configuration "duck". Its caliber is 135 mm. Four large folding wings are in the rear of the rocket, and four steering rudders are in the front. Also in the bow of the rocket are the rudder drives and a shaped charge. In flight, the rudders and wings are located at a certain angle to the longitudinal axis of the rocket, which causes it to rotate, stabilizing flight.

A solid fuel engine is installed in the middle part of the ATGM, the control equipment is located at the back. The rocket engine is single-chamber dual-mode. In the back is a coil with a wire and an infrared lamp, on which the tracking equipment finds a rocket in flight. The only complex device in the design of the rocket is the coordinator, which includes a gyroscope.

The launch and start of work of most of the rocket systems provide several squadrons at once, they close the rocket's power supply network, spin up its gyroscope, give the initial velocity to the missile, and then the cruise missile of the ATGM turns on.

After the shot, the infrared lamp of the rocket is fixed by the control equipment. After that, the automation determines the position of the projectile in space and amends the flight. The signal is transmitted through the wire and enters the steering gear. The operator must simply hold the object in sight. In addition to the semi-automatic, there is also a manual correction mode for a missile’s flight at its final stage, which greatly increases the accuracy of the complex.
